The Chautauqua Regional Youth Symphony (CRYS) will hold auditions for all three of its orchestras on Friday and Saturday, January 9 and 10, 2016.
This is CRYS’s 29th season of offering classical music education and performance opportunities to serious music students from elementary school through college. Acclaimed performer and conductor Bryan Eckenrode is the Music Director and Conductor of all three orchestras.
Orchestra members are selected by teacher recommendation and audition. Both private and public school music teachers are encouraged to contact CRYS for this distinctive opportunity for their students who show special talent or interest in performing.
Rehearsals for Prelude Strings, the beginning orchestra for string musicians, start on Friday afternoon, January 15, 2016, at Christ First Methodist Church in Jamestown. Prelude students are expected to have at least one year’s experience reading music and be able to perform at a NYSSMA level I or II.
CRYS’s other two orchestras begin their Saturday rehearsals on January 16, 2016, on the stage of the Reg Lenna Center for The Arts in downtown Jamestown. The Young Artists Orchestra (YAO) is for intermediate musicians, including string, brass, wind and percussion players, able to perform at a NYSSMA level III or IV. The Youth Symphony, CRYS’s premier performance group, is composed of highly talented and motivated high school and college musicians playing at NYSSMA level V or VI.
In April, Youth Symphony students will participate in a weekend of concentrated coaching, rehearsing, and fun at Chautauqua Institution.
The rehearsals and Chautauqua Weekend are in preparation for the three orchestras’ Spring Gala Concert on Sunday, May 15, 2016, in the Elizabeth S. Lenna Hall at Chautauqua Institution.
Details of expectations of CRYS students and parents can be found in the documents on the “Updates and Information for Musicians” page at the website www.CRYouthSymphony.com.
