Winter Festival Weekend Features Community Events, Activities and Contests

The 2016 President’s Day Weekend Winter Festival, held February 13 and 14, 2016, at Lakeside Park, Mayville NY, besides featuring many events and activities at the park, will also feature many community events and specials as well this year. Reverie Creamery will feature chocolate covered cheese in honor of Valentine’s Day, as well as their specialty-made cheeses over the festival weekend. Chautauqua Miniatures will be open during the weekend with festival specials and 10% off during festival weekend. The Chautauqua Township Museum, located across the street from Lakeview Hotel in the old train depot, will be open Saturday, Feb. 13th from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. The Fire and Ice Volleyball Tournament will be held behind Lakeview Hotel during the weekend. The Fireball Girls will also be making an appearance there on Saturday, Feb. 13th, from 4 – 6 p.m. If you would like to enter a volleyball team, call (716) 553-1423. A popular event, the Polar Plunge, will take place at the festival this year. Benefiting local food pantries in Chautauqua County, Family Health Medical Services has once again organized this event to take place on Sat., Feb. 13th at noon at Lakeside Park. The Stones Throwing Association is hosting the “Hoth Invitational” Stones Tournament (a cross between bocce and golf), taking place on Saturday, Feb. 13th beginning at 10 a.m. at Lakeside Park. On Sunday, Feb. 14th, they will have free, open play for anyone interested in learning the game from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. If you would like to participate in the pet parade, it will be held at 3 p.m. on Sat., Feb. 13th. Call (716) 753-3113 to sign up or meet behind the park’s community center (lake side) before 3 p.m. that day. All pets are welcome. Portage Hill Art Gallery will host “Art from the Heart created by Regional Artists” during the festival weekend. The work of professional artists will be shown, along with free Valentine’s Day cookies and hot cider, on Sat., Feb. 13th from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sun., Feb. 14th from 2 – 4 p.m. They are located 2.5 miles north of the uptown Mayville traffic light. Webb’s Cottage Collection will hold a special winter sale during the festival weekend. Check out the candy/gift shop while you’re there as well. Mayville Library is holding a mini winter book sale at the library located at the corner of S. Erie and Evans Street on Friday, Feb. 12th from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 13th from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Lakeview Hotel has several musical events planned for your listening pleasure. DJ Griz will be at the Lakeview Friday evening, Feb. 12th beginning at 10 p.m., Bob Campbell will perform on Sat., Feb. 13th beginning at 2 p.m., and the Porcelain Busdrivers will perform on Sat., Feb. 13th beginning at 10 p.m.

Several local restaurants are also offering special Valentine’s Day offerings as well during the festival weekend. The Mayville Diner (located uptown near the traffic light) is offering their signature sweet roll or Mayville toast for a special price, Andriaccio’s Restaurant (1/4 mi. from Chautauqua Institution) will have a special menu available, Bellini Lounge and Olives Restaurant located at Chautauqua Suites will offer Valentine’s Day specials on Sunday, and Webb’s Captain’s Table Restaurant will offer regular and special menu items as well as live jazz and chocolate covered strawberries and flowers for couples. Other fine restaurants in the area open during festival weekend are Chautauqua Harbor House, Village Restaurant (Dewittville), and Lakeview Hotel.

Many events, activities, and contests will take place at the festival, including Rainbow the Clown, several contests with cash prizes, carriage rides, cold water rescue demo by Dewittville Fire Dept., 50/50 drawing, Alpacas demo/info., marshmallow shooters gallery, kids’ corner edible crafts sponsored by Wegmans, Children’s Fishing Pond sponsored by Tops Friendly Markets, Lego play area, food and craft vendors, and a larger fireworks display on Saturday, Feb. 13th at 8 p.m. Please note there was a schedule change and the chili cook-off and Friday evening opening ceremonies won’t be held. There will be many events and activities and lots of family fun for everyone. Plan on coming to Mayville NY the weekend of February 13 and 14, 2016 for this annual winter festival in its 30th year of existence.
