“We’ve been working on this for several years,” Betsy Wright, WCA Hospital President and CEO said, “and all of our patience has paid off today.” Wright hosted the Grand Opening of WCA’s new Ear Nose and Throat Clinic at the hospital’s Jones Memorial Health Center on Thursday, December 5. The Clinic is located at 51 Glasgow Avenue in Jamestown.

The new ENT Center at WCA provides advanced care, both surgically and non-surgically, for patients who need specialized and focused evaluation in the areas of hearing and ear health, nasal and throat problems. The Center will provide both diagnostic and treatment options in the medical specialty of otolaryngology.

Three physicians will staff the Center every Tuesday and on alternate Thursdays. Ear, Nose & Throat Specialist, Dr. Ruthann Lipman and Board-Certified Otolaryngologists Dr. Sean Carroll and Dr. Rick Fornelli will be joined by Nancy A, Anderson, M.S., CCC-A (Certificate of Clinical Competence-Audiology) to provide consultation in all aspects of hearing and ENT care.

The group is currently accepting new patients. For more information, call (716) 664-8515 or visit www.wcahospital.org.

Co-hosting the Grand Opening, Journey Gunderson, Executive Director of Jamestown’s Lucille Ball-Desi Arnaz Center highlighted a remarkable previously unrecognized connection between WCA Hospital and the Queen of Comedy herself. Lucille Ball, a native of Jamestown, frequently visitited hospital patients, especially sick and injured children, to offer them cheer and comfort. A number of photographs from the Lucy-Desi archives depict Lucy wearing an attractive but simple blue dress while visiting hospitalized patients. Recently, reviewing archival materials, Lucy-Desi staff found the actual dress seen in those old photographs.

Lucy’s dress and her images proudly graced WCA’s grand opening along with Lucille Ball’s 1989 Governor’s Award Emmy for Lifetime Achievements. The golden statue was on display and available for guests to admire and hold for their own red carpet photograph.
