The United Veterans Council of Jamestown is holding an essay contest to find this year’s Memorial Day Miss Veterans Poppy. They are currently making preparations for the Annual Jamestown Memorial Day Parade. The essay contest is extended to all local 5th – 8th grade girls to become the 4th annual Miss Veterans Poppy for the parade that will be held Monday, May 28, 2017 at 10:00 am in Jamestown.
They are inviting all 5th – 8th grade girls to prepare an essay about Memorial Day. The essay would need to be no more than 200 words explaining why Memorial Day is important to them and what Memorial Day means to them. They should also include in their essay if they have any veterans in their family. Each essay needs to be tagged with the students name and school that they attend, along with a phone number that they can be reached at.
The selected girl would ride in the parade, receive an honorary sash, and present a wreath at the Memorial Day cemetery services in Lakeview Cemetery immediately following the parade. She would also join the United Veterans Council for Saturday Morning Breakfast Club Saturday, May 26th.
