Another Election is just around the corner, notes Chautauqua County Election Commissioners Luz E. Torres and Brian C. Abram. In a joint statement by the Commissioners they stated, “on August 23, 2022, there will be two separate Elections being held in Chautauqua County,”.
“First, all registered voters are eligible to participate in the Special Election for Representative in US Congress, 23rd District,” begins Commissioner Torres. “Second, only registered Republican Voters are eligible to participate in the US Congressional 23rd District Primary Election,” added Commissioner Abram.
Republicans will be offered two ballots, (one for the Special and one for the Primary) while all other voters will be given one ballot for the Special Election.
August 23, 2022 polls will open at all 49 poll sites in Chautauqua County from 6AM to 9PM. Early Voting for these pair of Elections will be run simultaneously, from August 13 to August 21 at any of the four Early
Voting sites in Chautauqua County: Chautauqua County Fairgrounds in Dunkirk, Chautauqua Mall in Lakewood, Robert H. Jackson Center in Jamestown or the Board of Elections Office in Mayville. The complete schedule is available for Early Voting at www.votechautauqua.com.
Voters need to be careful with the different deadlines for each Election:
The last day to register in person at the Board of Elections for the Special Election is August 13. The deadline to register in person for the Primary has passed.
The last day to submit an Application for an Absentee Ballot is August 8 for either Election. Absentee voters who submit an application are excluded from voting on the machine on Election Day or during Early Voting. Voters who request an Absentee Ballot may still vote via a Provisional Affidavit Ballot, which will be counted provided the voter has not returned their Absentee Ballot.
