Local Jamestown resident William Nothem’s original script with music, The Unit, will be the first film produced in this area by Royal Realm Productions. Royal Realm is an independent movie company that relocated to this area from North Carolina in August to create a prototype film industry developed by its President and CEO, Diana Lenska. Ms. Lenska is also creating the Chautauqua International Film Festival with the support of the County.
William Nothem has been involved in music from a very young age. At seven years old he composed his first music. In his first public performance at age eleven, he played Beatles songs by ear. He began writing songs at thirteen and played bass guitar in his first band at fourteen. He has played keyboard and bass and sung background vocals in seven bands, including the band for Sterling Pollaro, once rated the number one Elvis tribute artist in North America and second in the world.
Mr. Nothem has written well over one hundred songs. His music has been featured on both radio and television, sold on CDs and performed solo and with the various bands he hasperformed in. In 2007, he wrote and performed a song for 300 people, including Lucille Ball’s sister at a Lucy-Desi fan club reunion.
A retired CPA/auditor, Mr. Nothem has also written two book manuscripts, one of which – “Welcome to the Universe” – will be published in the near future. Writing “The Unit” has been a labor of love, which he hopes will inspire its audience to see the beauty and meaning of life.
The Unit is seeking a large cast of all ages. It is a musical-drama with some comedic touches based on a true story of four days in the psych unit. Strong actors/actresses and singers are needed. Once cast, filming is scheduled to begin in late March to early April. Filming will be on six to eight weekends. Cast will receive full film credit, IMDb credit, craft and all meals during their shoot schedule during production. The Unit, if completed and edited on schedule, will be entered into the 1st Chautauqua International Film Festival.
