“I am more flexible and I have better balance” are some of the remarks made by past participants of the “Healthy Bones” classes. “I fell and didn’t break my wrist,” recalls another while “I can lift my legs into the car” claims another member. They may seem to be small feats but to those with limited mobility and strength – they are monumental. This is why Chautauqua County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) continues its classes following the StrongWomen© curriculum. StrongWomen© was developed by Dr. Miriam Nelson of Tufts University in Boston. The exercise routine includes a research-based series of resistive exercises using weights. The training classes help ward off or prevent osteoporosis and osteopenia, and aim to increase your strength, bone density, balance, and energy and you will look and feel better! As one progresses through the exercise routine, you are encouraged to add weight (either dumb bells or leg weights) to your exercise to increase their effectiveness.

Each class follows the same routine but may vary in times and length. An information session precedes each class to complete the required paperwork with classes beginning shortly thereafter. Class cost is $25.00 and weights are available for your use at each location. Spring classes are beginning at six individual locations throughout Southern Chautauqua County:
