Special Advent Midweek Services Scheduled at First Lutheran Church

First Lutheran Church will be sponsoring the Wednesday noontime Advent Services in Memorial Chapel on December 6th, 13th, and 20th. The services will be led by the Rev. Mark E. Swanson, pastor of First Lutheran Church. Guest preachers will highlight the lives of the saints of the church each week. Brian A. Bogey, Organist/Choirmaster will be at the organ. Those in attendance are encouraged to bring a bag lunch following the service in the church parlors. Beverage and dessert will be supplied.

Guest speaker for Wednesday, December 6th is the Rev. Timothy Hoyer, pastor of Tree of Life Lutheran Church, Jamestown, and the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Falconer. Pastor Hoyer will speak on St. Nicholas who is honored that day in the church’s liturgical calendar.

Guest speaker for Wednesday, December 13th will be the Rev. Laura A. Csellak, chaplain at Lutheran. December 13th is the actual St. Lucia Day in the church calendar, and she will be honored at that Advent service by Pastor Laura.

The final Advent Service will be on Wednesday, December 20th with the Rev. Ivy Gauvin, pastor at St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church in Bemus Point. Pastor Ivy will preach on Katharina von Bora Luther, the wife of Martin Luther, founder of the Lutheran denomination. Katharina was originally a nun prior to being married to Martin Luther. The community is welcome to attend.
