Rotarian Dan Heitzenrater introduced Michael and Sarah Bigney, owners of Crown Street Roasting Company, at a recent meeting of the Rotary Club of Jamestown.
Crown Street Roasting Company opened its doors in 2017 by this industrious couple. Michael was born and raised in Bemus Point, NY and Sarah was born and raised in Kane, PA. Crown Street is a coffee roastery and specialty coffee shop and café located at 16 West Third Street in downtown Jamestown, that was originally started in the garage of the couple’s home on Crown Street.
The Crown Street Roasting Company’s mission is to provide an unparalleled customer experience, matched with superior coffee and culinary quality in a place that fosters gratefulness, community, ideas, growth, and progression. They live their professional lives and ask their employees to be grateful for each person who goes out of their way to have coffee in their business place. They both love good coffee and roasting the beans themselves so they can offer it to other people in other areas too.
The couple import their coffee beans from other countries, which change from time to time depending on harvest cycles and weather. Every cup of coffee is made with freshly ground beans and every espresso drink is made to order. It is a craft, it is a specialty, much like a craft brewery.
The Bigneys have been married for 9 years; Michael attended college for Graphic and New Media Design and Sarah went to college for Health Information Management. Their personal interest in good coffee got the ball rolling for their roasting company. The café offers single origin drip and pour over coffee, a full espresso bar, bagel sandwiches, salads, and soup. Occasionally, Sarah offers a course called COFFEE 101 where you can taste test a flight of coffees, learning about the beans from the beginning to the product.
