Roberta Thompson of Real Estate Advantage recently received The 2017 Advocate for Women in Business Award at the SBA Small Business Week Awards Luncheon. This annual gathering of local agencies, bankers and small businesses was held at Salvator’s Italian Gardens on May 12, 2017. Each year recipients are recognized for their achievements and contributions to economic development in New York State.
Roberta (Bobbie) was presented with this year’s award by the Small Business Development Center at JCC in acknowledgement of her interest in small business and specifically for her 11 years as facilitator for the Women in Networking (WIN) group. The WIN program was started in May of 2006 and is co-sponsored by the SBDC at JCC and Key Bank. The purpose of the monthly meeting is to provide local women business owners with an opportunity to share ideas, experience and encouragement with other members whether they are established or just starting their business venture.
The group meets on the second Thursday of every month from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Roger Tory Peterson Institute. The program consists of time for networking, a buffet lunch, individual member introductions and a guest speaker. Speaker topics focus on areas of interest such as record keeping, time management, organization, social media tips and much more.
There are no dues for membership but a fee is collected at the program to cover catering and administrative costs. For additional information please visit www.winchautauqua.org or contact the SBDC at 716-338-1024. Guests are always welcome and encouraged to attend. The next meeting is June 8th.
