Public Service Announcement from the Jamestown Fire Department

This is a public service announcement from the Jamestown Fire Department. In 2020 the Jamestown Fire Dept. responded to the 122 calls for possible illegal fires, 52 of which were deemed legal cooking fires. We wanted to take the opportunity to clear up any confusion with the City Code regarding recreational fire. The Jamestown City Charter prohibits burning any garbage, refuse or rubbish for any reason, this includes yard waste. Recreational fires are illegal, with the exception of cooking fires. A cooking fire is allowed as long as the person is using charcoal or untreated wood and be in an “approved container” at least 10 feet away from a combustible structure. Gas fueled outdoor fireplaces are allowed. For questions regarding this regulation please contact the Jamestown Fire Department’s Office of Fire Prevention at 716-483-7597.
