The Prendergast Library is honored to receive a donation in memory of David A. Abbey Jr.
To honor David’s love of “tinkering,” family and friends wanted to purchase materials for the library’s Makespace. With their donation, we added two new robotic kits and a new storage unit to the Makerspace. In addition, the storage unit has a memorial plaque with David’s name.
The Makerspace is the perfect place for “tinkering” and learning through active play and collaboration. The library runs a Makerspace program Monday- Friday from 3:30-5:00. Each day has a different theme with staff-led activities and drop-in stations. For example, Wednesdays and Fridays are Tech days, and activities are focused on technology concepts. The new robotics kits will be the staff-led activity on March 2nd and 16th.
All ages can build robots with the new kits by assembling the various parts, creating up to six different robot models, and then designing their own once they know how the kit works. Each robot is controlled remotely using an app on a phone or tablet. The kits are perfect for beginning and advanced learners.
