What: Free NY Safe Boating Course sponsored by the Falconer Public Library and the Falconer Fire Department.

Who: Must be at least 10 years of age. Open to children and adults.

When: Saturday, March 7th – 8:00 am – 4:00 pm – Free pizza lunch provided. Doors open at 7:30 am.

Where: Falconer Fire Department, 115 Davis St., Falconer, NY.

The successful completion of the 8 hour NY Safe Boating Course leads to a boating safety certificate which is good for life.
Everyone must have a certificate to operate a personal watercraft (e.g. Jetski, Waverunner, or SeaDoo).

Education Phase-In

  • Those born on or after January 1, 1993 will need a Boating Safety Certificate beginning in 2020.
  • Those born on or after January 1, 1988 will need a Boating Safety Certificate beginning in 2022.
  • Those born on or after January 1, 1983 will need a Boating Safety Certificate beginning in 2023.
  • Those born on or after January 1, 1978 will need a Boating Safety Certificate beginning in 2024.

You must be at least 14 years of age to operate a personal watercraft.

Governor Cuomo signed Brianna’s Law in 2019. The law requires every boater in the state to have a Boating Safety Certificate by the year 2025. The legislation is named after Brianna Lieneck, an 11-year-old Long Island girl who was killed in a 2005 boating accident.

This classroom course is a basic boating safety course and covers required equipment, NYS navigation law, rules of the road, navigation aids, personal watercraft safety, safety for paddlesports, and waterskiing, and more.
