Magnus Martensson, a Swedish concert pianist and comedian, will perform a piano concert on Sunday, October 1st at 4:00 p.m. at the Jamestown First Lutheran Church. This concert is part of the First Lutheran Concert Series and is also cosponsored by the American Scandinavian Heritage Foundation.
Maestro Martensson’s first half of the concert will feature classical and Scandinavian piano music and the second half will be a unique mixture of piano music and comedy. Martensson will also perform two piano/organ duets with church organist, Brian A. Bogey.
Magnuson Martensson, pianist/comedian, has appeared in New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Minneapolis, Toronto, Vancouver, Stockholm, Cleveland, Malmo, Pittsburgh, Winnipeg, Albuquerque, Burtrask, Jamestown, and Buffalo. He has appeared at New York City # 1 comedy club Carolines on Broadway; played for the Swedish King Carl XVI, and on American and Swedish TG. His 2008 performance at the United Nations in New York City made the Honorable Ban Ki-moon titter, while the ongoing North American tour “Excuse Me, Does My Piano Count as One Carry-on?” keeps making Martensson a household name across North America. During the 2023/24 season he will perform at the Stockholm Theatre, the Gothenburg Theater and Portland’s Nordia House.
Cabaret Scenes, NYC concert review said that “Making people laugh out loud while astonishing them with musical virtuosity was the order of the evening for Magnus Martensson.” Admission is free but a freewill offering will be received. A reception will follow in the church parlors. It should be an afternoon of music, comedy, food, and fellowship. The public is welcome to attend!
