The local American Legion and the Chautauqua County Veterans Council held a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony on Monday, September 11, 2017 at noon in front of the Chautauqua County Courthouse, 1 N. Erie St. in Mayville.

The program is to honor and remember the over 3,000 Americans who were killed on September 11, 2001 when members of the Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda hijacked four planes and crashed them into the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon just outside of Washington, D.C., and a field in Western Pennsylvania.

“As we approach the 16th Anniversary of this horrific attack on our nation, I urge all citizens of Chautauqua County to again keep the members of our military and first responders in their thoughts and prayers,” said Chautauqua County Executive Vince Horrigan.

The short program was open to the public and featured a few words from local dignitaries.
