Library Sets January Computer Classes

Prendergast Library has established a schedule of computer classes for January that includes new topics as well as traditional favorites.
A three-part series on basic computer skills and four stand-alone classes are made possible by support from the New York State Library’s Adult Literacy Library Services grant program through the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Library System. Taught by representatives of Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES, they will include:
• Basic Computer Class Series from 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday Jan 11, 13 and 15.
• How to Use Excel for Your 2016 Budget from 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 20.
• Using Word and the Internet for Your 2016 Physical Fitness from 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 25. Participants of all ages and fitness levels will learn how to keep a food and exercise journal and discover websites with useful information about health and exercise.
• Understanding Online File Storage and Online Security from 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27.
• Understanding Online Income Tax Filing from 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 29.
Prendergast Library staff members will also offer:
• Introduction to Microsoft Office 2010 Series from 2- 4 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays Jan. 4, 6, 11 and 13. Learn about spreadsheets, word processing, presentations and basic publishing.
• Introduction to the Online Marketplace from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12. Learn more about eBay, Amazon and Craigslist and how to list items for sale. Knowledge and use of an email system is a prerequisite.
• Get to Know your Ancestors from 2-3 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 15. Learn to use and Heritage Quest as well as local search tools. A library card in good standing is a prerequisite.
All classes are free and open to the public. To sign up for a class, call 484-7135. One-on- one appointments are available for help with resumes or technology assistance, and 3D printing demonstrations can also be scheduled.
