Erik Johnson, of Jamestown, was recently awarded the first Norman Owen Memorial Scholarship by the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation.
Johnson, a 2017 Southwestern Central School graduate, is currently a freshman at Alfred State University. He is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in construction management.
“Growing up in a family with four generations of contractors, I only saw it fit to work in the construction industry,” Johnson said. “After working summers for the family construction business, I knew I had made the right decision, but I wanted to go bigger. The construction management program at Alfred offers a degree that will prepare me for commercial building projects.”
Following completion of his degree, Johnson plans to stay in New York State and work for a construction management firm as a project manager.
The Norman Owen Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to graduating seniors from Jamestown, Falconer, Frewsburg, Maple Grove and Southwestern schools studying a vocation or a trade.
