Thanks to LeAnn Love in the JHS College and Career Center and Mercyhurst College, JHS was able to take a group of 11th and 12th graders to visit the college recently. The juniors were able to visit a college campus before their senior year, and the seniors that went on the trip have not made up their minds where they will be going after graduation.
Students learned about the admissions process and what colleges need such as: transcripts, essays, letters of recommendation and how to fill out the application. A group of Mercyhurst students talked about their own personal experiences, why they chose Mercyhurst and how they chose a major and minor. Students took a tour of the campus in smaller groups and saw the dorms, cafeteria, gym and library. Students also met with professors to hear about the different programs available and the expectations of moving on from a high school to college.
“This is a great opportunity for our students,” said Mrs. Love. “It was all paid for by Mercyhurst College from providing a bus and lunch to their time with our students and we thank them for this wonderful opportunity.”
