Jamestown Drama Club Performs Improv Comedy

A Group of Jamestown High School students will take to the Reg Studio Theatre Stage this Thursday Night, May 31, 2012 at 6:30 pm to perform live, original Comedy.  The show is FREE to the public.

Jamestown Drama Club! This troupe shows improvisational comedy chops in this public performance. Hosted and performed entirely by students, this show will shape audience suggestions into scenes, games and more as new characters come alive.Drama Club started in 2008 to offer Jamestown High School students training in acting, improvisation and classic drama. Teaching artists including Dana Block, Dennis Drew, Cindy Riggle and the late John Blackman have each put their own stamp on the group. Over the years, participants have performed Shakespeare, commedia-dell'arte, contemporary and classic short plays and monologues.

Since 2010, Chautauqua Theater Company and Unexpected Guests member, Timothy Smeal, has been guiding the Drama Club.  A core group of students that began with Smeal, have remained active throughout his tenure.  This group, including Rachael Arce, Sofia Berry, Kassandra Kum and Kendra Wood are particularly adept at improvisational comedy.

Drama Club is part of an afterschool program funded by 21st Century Community Learning Centers through a partnership with Arts Council For Chautauqua County.  Visual, performing and media arts are taught after school in Jamestown’s elementary, middle and high schools.  Off-site instruction is offered at Boys and Girls Club and Eastside YMCA.

Reg Studio Theater is located at 108 East Third Street between Forte and Cibo restaurants.
