The Jamestown Breast Cancer Support Group, founded by Rhonda Lundberg, Annie Walker, and Joyce Ormond in 1990, meets on the second Wednesday of every month, 6 p.m., at Friendly’s Restaurant. Facilitator members for the sessions are Pat Carr at (716) 665-4343 and Joyce Seekings at (716) 484-2126.
“I know from experience how important a support group can be to survivorship,” says Pat Carr, long-time breast cancer survivor. “We never want anyone to feel like he or she is alone in this life-long journey. While family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues provide enormous support and encouragement, there is nothing better than sharing your feelings with those who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Our group provides the emotional and peer support alongside navigating members to important services and valuable information that helps them crusade through a diagnosis of breast cancer before, during, and after treatment. A fun-loving group of people, we also host numerous wellness events, attend fun-filled outings, and raise money and awareness that supports local breast cancer diagnosis and treatment agencies and centers. Our motto, “a hug is a perfect gift”, is a one-size-fits-all slogan. After all, it’s what life is all about. We encourage and invite anyone, including care givers, to attend a meeting and witness, first-hand, the rewards and gifts of being part of a support group.”
From funds raised from “Turn On The Pink To Black Out Breast Cancer” blubs, breast cancer awareness sweatshirts and other supportive breast cancer awareness products sold by the members, the Jamestown Breast Cancer support group funded numerous breast cancer initiatives and agencies in the region including, the Center For Imaging at WCA women’s imaging services.
