Under the guidance of Dena Carlson and women of the Angel Circle, 4 murals were developed to complement “The Ascension” mural by Benny Collins that has been part of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church since its founding days in the early 50’s in Lakewood. The mural was a gift to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church from King Gustav of Sweden, a friend of our first Pastor, Paul V. Beck. The “Apostles Murals” are now hanging opposite “The Ascension” in the sanctuary, dedicated on Easter Sunday, 2021.

In the first four books of the New Testament, the Apostles Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, are represented using images that the early church adopted from the Old Testament by a man, a lion, an ox, and an eagle, and this was the inspiration for the 4 murals that were developed beginning in April 2018. The many symbols included on the murals done in earth tones, gold trim and simple black trim, were reminders of our gifts from God.
