The Discriminate Diners took a trip to the south side of Jamestown for this adventure to the Game Time Sports Bar & Grill which is located inside the Jamestown Bowling Company.

We opened the door and it was packed with young and old alike! We were welcomed immediately to a vibrant, exciting sports bar with televisions on the walls showing football highlights and eventually the hockey game. There were also smaller television screens on the walls broadcasting a trivia game that kept everyone busy and interested. We were told it would be a short wait – and it was – about 15 to 20 minutes, which gave us time to familiarize ourselves with this obviously popular establishment.

There is a large bar with ample seating and it was VERY busy this particular evening! Against the opposite wall are several comfortable booths and right down the middle is a long, meandering table with family style seating on both sides that can accommodate 20 to 30 patrons. Between that table and the bar and on the common wall with the bowling alley there is an ample number of high, round tables.

Our host, Jim Mee (who is also proprietor of the Jamestown Bowling Company Pro Shop), showed us to our table. Jim is a former PBA member with 15 years in the bowling business. He has 47 career 300 games and nineteen 800 series. He is a member of both theJamestownand Dunkirk Bowling Association Halls of Fame. He sure knows how to run a restaurant too.

Our waitress, Lynn, came immediately to take our drink orders and offered us a great selection of beers, wine, and cocktails. Happy hour is celebrated Monday through Friday from 4 to 6pm.

You will need some time to look the menu over as it is extremely varied. In addition, they offer fantastic nightly specials to choose from. Thursday evening from 5 to 8 there is a $9.95 buffet and Wednesday night is Customer Appreciation Night with a prime rib special from 5 to 9pm for $9.95. Be sure to check out the full menu by going to and clicking on the GAME TIME MENU.

This particular evening the specials included: PRIME RIB PASTA for $12.95 (sautéed prime rib pieces with asparagus spears and portabella mushrooms tossed in a “kicky” garlic sauce with penne pasta); CRUNCHY HADDOCK for $10.95 (pan seared haddock with a cornflake and breadcrumb coating); and 10 OZ SMOTHERED SIRLOIN for $11.95 (charbroiled sirloin with sautéed mushrooms and onions). In addition, the soup specials included either chicken wing or cream of potato (with ham).

Our choices were: 1 prime rib pasta, 1 crunchy haddock, 1 regular fish fry and 1 chicken Lisa (from the extensive menu selections). And one diner ordered the delicious homemade potato soup!

Nice dinner salads were served with an excellent selection of salad dressings offered and of course coleslaw was served with the fish fry.

The dinners arrived promptly and attractively and the portions of pasta and chicken Lisa were HUGE, more than enough for this dinner—and another one besides—from the to-go box we filled at the end of the meal. Both fish dishes were excellent. The beer battered order was delicious and moist as was the crunchy haddock which satisfied the tummy of our ever watchful weight-watcher.

We followed dinner with piping hot cups of freshly brewed coffee and passed on the tempting Red Velvet Cake, Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie and the NY Style Cheesecake choices offered for dessert.

It was obvious how popular this place is when we walked in the door and when we walked out, we knew why—great food, good atmosphere, nice people, fair price—who could ask for much more. Oh, did I mention, there is a coupon in The Talking Phonebook for $5.00 off any order (Eat-in or Take-out) over $20.00?

Four forks up from the group for this evenings’ dinner! It never ceases to amaze us how many excellent eating establishments there are in our community!
