For the past fifteen years, a black sign with white lettering on Route 394 in Stowe welcomed many shoppers looking for that special something. Memory Lane Country Shop owner Lori Buchanan recently made the exciting decision to move the shop into a unique, renovated historic building on Peck Settlement Road in Kiantone. “It’s the same merchandise that people love, but refreshed,” she said of the change, “think of it as an update.” Buchanan said the shop has a good following of devoted shoppers and she’s pleased they’ve stayed loyal. Patrons visit Memory Lane to indulge in a variety of natural products, natural home cleaning supplies and soaps. It’s also known for country and seasonal décor that sets a small, local shop like this apart.
The new location is as interesting as the one-of a kind treasures found inside. As the last standing trolley station for the Warren Jamestown railroad, history and charm are in features like exposed brick and an expansive overhead space. Carefully strung lights and overhead industrial pendants make the metal touches glitter with warmth.
Buchanan revealed that the business started as a hobby. Years ago, she sold handmade soy wax candles at craft shows and from there a love for décor, furniture, and natural products grew. “I love to decorate, and often hire out for projects” she mentioned. When asked for business advice, Buchanan said she’s always been a hard worker, and her favorite motto is: “Work hard and go to bed tired.” This mantra helps her run a business that consistently gets five-star reviews from Facebook followers.
Memory Lane Country Shop now has parking and an entrance in the back at the new location. Its wares include lanterns, lamps, clocks, Americana type artwork, t-shirts, and great gift ideas, many with a seasonal touch. They carry products for the gourmet food lover. New products like Fusion Mineral furniture paint and 100% Vegan, cruelty free whipped soaps are available. Online shoppers can visit www.memorylanecountryshop.com under “shop online” for a selection of items.
Current hours at the new location are Fridays 11-5, Saturdays 10-4, and Sundays 11-5, until the Grand Opening and Open House on Saturday November 2nd.
