The Jamestown Public Market continues on Cherry Street in Downtown Jamestown, with a variety of family friendly and unique events and experiences planned for the month of August, made possible by 2019 title sponsor, UPMC Chautauqua.
August 10 celebrates both the Lucille Ball Comedy Festival and National Farmers Market week with the return of Karate Sleepover’s Public Market Takeover. Karate Sleepover is a comedy group consisting of Paul Clemente and Jeremy Little. Encompassing all forms of entertainment, Karate Sleepover hosts, performs, and cultivates art all over Jamestown, NY. With years of experience on stage Paul and Jeremy always bring high energy and laughs to audiences all over the Southern Tier.
During the market, Karate Sleepover will bring their local stand-up comedy routine, with family friendly acts, jokes and more. In addition, Simply Sweet Ice Cream Truck, a local business, will be bringing sweet summer treats to the market. Lucy fans Carrie and Jeff Ketterman will be bringing along their vintage trailer, in homage of Lucille Ball. Fans, locals and tourists alike are encouraged to come say hello!
August 24 marks the annual Children’s Market and 1K Kids Fun Run. Children ages 5-12 can register for the event by age group, at no cost, by visiting jamestownrenaissance.org. The annual run will begin at 11:00 AM along Third Street, with pre-registration beginning at 10 AM.
The Children’s Market will also be hosting a visit from the Buffalo Zoomobile, a traveling hands-on-learning experience offered by the Buffalo Zoo. Using live animals, zoo representatives will offer touchable bio facts and props to teach about a wide variety of topics.
MooCheesy, a local food truck serving burgers and twists on the classic grilled cheese will also be at the August 24 event.
Other events planned for the month of August include live musical entertainment, made possible through the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation’s Greater Jamestown Leadership Fund. Musical acts scheduled include: Russell & Hamels, August 3; Mark Mincarellil, August 17; the Larson Family Band, August 24; and Bill Downe, August 31.
The Chautauqua Connections Children’s Coalition continues to sponsor the weekly SPROUTs Club. Children’s activities will be offered throughout the month by the Chautauqua Alcohol and Substance Abuse Council, Audubon Community Nature Center, and The Resource Center.
The Jamestown Public Market is open Saturdays, from 10 am to 2 pm, located on Cherry Street in the heart of Downtown Jamestown. The market accepts EBT benefits, credit/debit cards, and participates in the Double Up Food Bucks New York Program, which helps individuals receiving EBT benefits stretch their dollars towards the purchase of fresh fruits and vegetables.
