Eye on Business: Guys & Dolls Dance Studio: 60 Years Strong

Guys & Dolls Dance Studio is a family business. Laura Cimino, owner/dance instructor extraordinaire, has been in the business since she was a girl. Her mother, Naomi, started the business in 1960 and made Laura a partner in 1981 when she was 13 years old. Naomi is clearly Laura’s hero. Unfortunately, she passed away in 2001. “Naomi was a star here on earth, and now she is a star in heaven…,” states the studio’s website, www.gddance.net. “My mother worked very hard to make the Studio a refuge where her students could escape their problems. I try to do the same. It has been a wonderful time. We did this together and the studio is as much mine as it was hers.”,” said Ms. Cimino.

Guys & Dolls Dance Studio is the longest running dance studio in Jamestown. “We have taught generations of students over the past six decades. I hope to be opening up for classes again very soon. I really miss the people,” added Ms. Cimino, “I can offer one-on-one classes and we will follow all the safety guidelines necessary. My phone is ringing every day with new students asking about lessons. People love the studio.”

The Studio is located at 1390 Peck Settlement Road on the southside of Jamestown. It has a museum dedicated to Laura’s mother Naomi that tells about the history of the business. The studio’s website is very interesting reading. There are pages about the history of the studio, Naomi and Laura. Reading it will inspire you to try tapping your toes.
