Many cars are nearly a foot wider than similar models manufactured a few decades ago. If you don’t believe me, check out the chaos in the nearest parking lot; there’s a good chance you’ll see cars wedged too close together. Last week I returned to my car after a long day at work only to find a gouge left in the new paint by a careless door-opener. Yesterday I witnessed some poor soul crawling into his vehicle through the passenger side, since a hulking SUV parked in the next spot prohibited him from opening the driver’s door more than a few inches. So please, do your best to give others room, and look around before flinging a car door open, lest it smash right into the car parked inches away!
