Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County’s EFNEP Program is excited to announce a fun summer series happening at Ellington Farman Library.
“Cook With Me!” blends preparing easy, healthy recipes with information on various health and nutrition topics. From 2-3PM on Mondays beginning July 12, series participants will work together to assemble each week’s dish while chatting about nutrition with EFNEP Nutrition Educator, Heather Gregory.
Kids often enjoy being in the kitchen. When you are young and inexperienced, it can be difficult to get that “sous chef” time that is so necessary to building culinary skills. Families are often working in a time crunch, and it’s hard to slow down to teach when you are racing the clock before your next task or event. “Cook With Me!” gives families a designated time and space to begin to focus on teaching their youth about measuring, cutting, nutrition, movement and food safety!
The cooking action will feature some planned spaces for hands-on activities around guessing portion sizes, learning how much sugar is really in soda and other beverages, and fun ways to move more. Participants will be able to taste their creations and go home with a copy of each recipe.
“This program is one of many that Ellington Farman Library has planned for the summer months,” shares Judith Whittaker, library director. “We’re thrilled to be able to partner with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County to include a unique mixed ages program. One where adults and young people can learn and work together towards a common goal of healthy eating”.
