Community Music Project
Children’s Music Studio has been joyfully serving the Jamestown community since 1997, offering music and movement classes for families with children, ages birth to age 5. The teachers, Susan Caster and Danica Olson, make use of the internationally renowned Musikgarten curriculum. To quote Musikgarten, “We’re not just teaching music, we’re transforming a generation.” We do that through sharing beautiful and energetic songs, stories, poems and musical games–sequentially building musical literacy skills in a fun atmosphere.
Music and movement can have a dramatic effect on babies, toddlers, and older children as well. Some studies indicate that early music instruction positively impacts language and literacy development; others point to improved pattern recognition skills which are the basis for mathematical learning; still others reveal the social and emotional benefits of being involved in music. Given our long-standing reputation as the leader in the field of affordable early music education, Musikgarten can give your child a learning advantage for life.
The once a week 30-45 minutes classes are attended by a caregiver with the young child (birth to three) and the caregiver acts as a model for the child. Beginning simply with singing, moving, and exploring rhythm instruments, we add levels of complexity as the children grow, expanding the singing repertoire, teaching more complex dances, and building instrumental ensembles.
Classes will begin the week of September 16 and are held Thursday evenings at Warner Place in the Lutheran Campus, 715 Falconer St. Jamestown, from 6:00-6:45 or Friday Mornings at 1st Presbyterian Church, Jamestown beginning at 9:30 am.
