JAMESTOWN – Three comedy professionals will lead the Lucille Ball Comedy Fest Boot Camp at Jamestown Community College’s Jamestown Campus July 30 through August 3.
The program, cosponsored by the Lucy Desi Center for Comedy and JCC’s Center for Continuing Education, will be held from 8 a.m.- 4 p.m. Improv, sketch, and stand-up comedy will be taught in adult (18 years and older) and youth (ages 11-17) tracks.
The registration fee is $400 for the adult track and $280 for the youth track. To register, call JCC, 338.1005. The registration deadline is July 16.
Comedy Fest Boot Camp is led by Bill Chott, recipient of a 2012 INNY Award for “Best Improv Coach” for his work at The Improv Trick, T. Faye Griffin, former writer and producer for “In Living Color” and the BET Network, and Andy Engel, founder of Manhattan Comedy School and director of new talent at the Gotham Comedy Club.
All students completing a workshop will have an opportunity for stage time at Lucy Fest, which is being held August 1-5. Students who complete the workshop led by Engel will earn a six-minute guest spot on stage at the Gotham Comedy Club in New York City, named by USA Today as one of the top 10 comedy clubs in the nation.
The sessions include:
Improv Intensive, led by Chott, participants will learn how to think on their feet, think outside the box, become characters, and play off of an audience.
Sketch Writing: Page to Stage, conducted by Griffin, will teach students how to brainstorm ideas, outline sketch material, create characters, and put together short vignettes. Work produced by participants will be performed before a live audience in a special showcase.
Stand-Up Shakedown, led by Engel, demonstrates how to write and deliver short comedy lines and how to put together a five-minute stand-up routine.
Youth comedy track participants will learn the basics of comedy in sessions taught by Chott and Griffin and will have the opportunity to perform in front of a live audience.
Individual sessions, conducted from 5-6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, feature discussions by Chott, Griffin, and Engel on comedy styles and techniques. To register for individual sessions, contact the Lucy Desi Center, 484.0800.
