Danica Olson-Walter is a Bachelor of Music Education graduate from Otterbein University, Westerville, OH and is certified in Pre-K through 12 Music. She is a newly certified teacher with Musikgarten and a first-year teacher with the Children’s Music Studio. She is the Director of Children’s and Youth Ministry for St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and a singer with the Chautauqua Chamber Singers. She is enthusiastic to begin this journey focusing on the youngest and most influential music-makers, as well as resourcing families with the joy of making music together.

Community Music Project’s ‘Children’s Music Studio’ has been recognized for their long-standing commitment to the Musikgarten philosophy and current offering of four or more levels of classes utilizing the Musikgarten Music & Movement Series, Children’s Music Studio was presented this award for its 2016-2017 season.

Children’s Music Studio has been joyfully serving the Jamestown community since 1997, offering music and movement classes for families with children, ages birth to nine years. The teachers, Susan Caster and Danica Olson-Walter, make use of the internationally renowned Musikgarten curriculum. To quote Musikgarten, “We’re not just teaching music, we’re transforming a generation.” We do that through sharing beautiful and energetic songs, stories, poems and musical games–sequentially building musical literacy skills in a fun atmosphere. Parents of young children (birth to three) attend class together, and the parent acts as a model for the child. Older children (ages four to nine) attend class without the parent, but parents are invited in for the last few minutes of class to do some music-making with their child. Children ages seven to nine are in a group piano class that is filled with dancing, listening, drumming, musical games and piano skills.

If you have or know someone with a young child, CMS is now accepting registrations for the next session, which runs from September to December 2018 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Jamestown. Give the gift of music!

Thanks to a grant from the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, all family materials will be 50% off, a $30-$50 savings.
