Every year on the first Saturday after Thanksgiving (this year on 25 November) the town of Frewsburg hosts its popular Santa Claus Christmas parade. It all steps off at 11:00 a.m. at the Blue House (on the parade grounds behind City Hall), makes a grand tour around Frewsburg’s streets and ultimately comes back to its starting point at the Blue House. Along the avenue, many of the town’s shops and merchants will also open their doors and add, each in its own special way, to the festivities.

Frewsburg’s Santa Claus Christmas parade, however, is different from all others in the region because of its unique leadoff feature, the horse-drawn parade. “There is none other like it anywhere nearby that we know of,” said organizer Lorrie Mabee with friend and co-organizer Marie Peterson and a select team of enthusiastic local volunteers. “It is a real spectacle worth seeing and being a part of. The crowds who come and enjoy it are really great every year.”

“A horse-drawn parade means horses, horses and more horses!” Lorrie said. Many years, as many as 100 (weather permitting) magnificent, beautiful steeds of all kinds pranced down the avenue in the middle of Frewsburg, some ridden by equestrians or cowboys & cowgirls, while others draw elaborate carriages or fine, old country wagons. Many of the horses will be festively decorated for the season, too.

“The whole parade leads folks back to the Blue House and the wonderful, annual Art & Crafts Fair… and ultimately of course, to Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus giving out prizes and games and wish-list promises to good boys and girls by the droves… and the parents who attend, of course.

The mission of the Santa Horse-Drawn Parade is even greater than the spectacle. Proceeds and opportunities to contribute in many ways will all benefit a long list of worthy local and national organizations including the Food Pantry, Angel Tree and many others.

All are invited to enjoy the parade and the friendly town of Frewsburg at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 25 to enjoy the unique, annual Santa Horse Drawn Parade.
