Chautauqua Hospice and Palliative Care (CHPC) will hold its annual Service of Remembrance and Memorial Butterfly Release on June 4th at both the Lakewood and Fredonia offices for those who wish to commemorate loved ones. Anyone who would like to remember a loved one, whether connected to hospice services or not, is welcome to participate.

“Across many cultures, butterflies symbolize the transformation between worlds,” says Jamie Probst, CHPC’s director of Bereavement Services. “Butterflies emerge when caterpillars shed their form, symbolizing an end and a beginning. Navigating the journey of grief means finding new ways to experience and hold on to that relationship.”

Each year, CHPC invites community members to attend the Service of Remembrance and
Memorial Butterfly Release where guests can purchase a butterfly in honor of a loved one.

“Hospice staff enjoy an incredible privilege assisting caregivers,” says Kris Brombacher, CHPC’s interim CEO. “The Butterfly Release and Remembrance allows us to continue to provide that support and deepen our connections with the community we serve.”

Butterflies will be available for pickup on Saturday, June 4 between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. at the following locations: CHPC Lakewood Office, 20 W Fairmount Ave, Lakewood, NY, OR CHPC Fredonia Office, 3780 Eagle St, Fredonia, NY. Those outside the area can also purchase a butterfly in memory of a loved one and CHPC staff will release it on their behalf at the online service. More than one person may be memorialized by a single butterfly. Individuals being memorialized will be listed on the butterfly web page and a downloadable program will be available there. Butterflies can be purchased at https://chpc.care/butterfly/.

The service is a hybrid event with two gathering sites and will be live streamed on Facebook Saturday, June 4, at 1 p.m. This hybrid event offers two options:

1) The service will be livestreamed on Facebook. This recording will be available after the event at CHPC.care and on Facebook.

2) Guests can attend the live recording outside the Lakewood office, or at the viewing service outside the Fredonia office.
