The senior orchestra of the Chautauqua Regional Youth Symphony (CRYS) recently had an intense Chautauqua Weekend in preparation for their Spring Gala Concert on Sunday afternoon, May 15.
The highly talented and motivated high school and college musicians that make up the Youth Symphony enjoyed sectional rehearsals with coaches, full rehearsals under the direction of conductor and music director Bryan Eckenrode, as well as some social time.
Their 4 p.m. concert will be in Chautauqua Institution’s Elizabeth S. Lenna Hall, where their rehearsals were held. The concert will also include performances by Prelude Strings, CRYS’s beginning string musicians, and the Young Artists Orchestra of intermediate students.
Included on the program will be Mozart’s Overture to The Magic Flute, Handel’s “Alyesford Piece,” Grieg’s “In the Hall of the Mountain King,” Schubert’s “Overture in D Major,” Moussorgski’s “Gopak,” and Wagner’s March from Die Meistersinger.
The concert will conclude with all three orchestras playing the Main Theme from Star Wars.
Weather permitting, a reception will be held on the porch of the hall following the performance.
The Chautauqua Weekend was made possible in part by a grant from the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation.
Tickets are $12. Presale tickets for $10 are available from the musicians and by calling (716) 664-2465, ext. 202.
