Chautauqua Patrons Insurance Company recently purchased 35 smoke alarms for the American Red Cross in support of the Home Fire Campaign. Volunteers from the Red Cross will install the alarms, purchased at a reduced rate courtesy of Everyday’s True Value, in Chautauqua County homes that need them.
“We are so grateful that Chautauqua Patrons Insurance Company and Everyday’s True Value for supporting this important initiative,” said Chuck Marra, Executive Director of the American Red Cross, Western New York Chapter. “If a fire occurs, you may have only two minutes to escape your home. A working smoke alarm’s warning can save your life.”
The Red Cross is asking every household in America to take two simple steps: check their existing smoke alarms and practice fire drills at home. As part of the Home Fire Campaign, the Red Cross is joining with fire departments and community groups nationwide to install free smoke detectors in homes that need them while providing families with important fire safety information. Between July 1, 2015-June 30, 2016, volunteers installed 241 smoke alarms in Chautauqua County homes.
