The Chautauqua County Health Network’s (CCHN) Creating Healthy Schools and Communities grant program is the recipient of a 2019-2020 Kaboom Play Everywhere Challenge grant to develop the Chadakoin Adventure Trail in partnership with the City of Jamestown, Roger Tory Peterson Institute and Audubon Community Nature Center. The Project Team, led by Mikayla Certo, CCHN Community Project Coordinator, is hosting a Site Walk & Community Visioning Workshop to be held on Friday, November 1, 2019 from 3:15 pm to 5:15 pm.
The Site Walk will begin at 3:15 pm at the Samuel G. Love Elementary School located at 50 E 8th Street, Jamestown, NY 14701. The Site Walk will travel from the school to Chadakoin Park and will focus on several stops at key nodes along the route. This walk will lead participants to the large pavilion located in the park at the intersection of Lafayette and 11th Streets, where a visioning workshop will be held before returning to the school by 5:15 pm.
This Community Engagement event will provide an opportunity for community members to collaboratively brainstorm ideas for the development of a new walking trail that will provide a safe route for pedestrians to walk to Jackson Taylor Park (formerly known as Chadakoin Park), located on the west side of the Washington Street traffic corridor from the east side of the Washington Street traffic corridor. Participants will discuss challenges and constraints of crossing the busy roadway and consider potential solutions for safe crossing while creatively re-envisioning the route to the park as an urban nature trail with interactive and engaging play elements along the way.
This is a free event and all are encouraged to participate in this important project. Two additional trail design workshops will be hosted
with future dates and details to be determined.
