As part of Chautauqua County’s goal to improve and expand CARTS service, CARTS will be providing Saturday service for City Fixed routes from June 1, 2019 to August 31, 2019.

Chautauqua County Executive George Borrello and Department of Public Facilities Director Brad Bentley rode the City Fixed Routes and listened to passengers express the need for expanded services. CARTS piloted a Free Fixed Route Friday in December and a Free Fixed Route Saturday in February that was utilized by many people.

“During the time we spent on the CARTS buses and talking to riders, we realized there was a tremendous need for additional transportation services for our residents and visitors,” said Borrello. “By expanding our CARTS services to be offered on Saturdays during the summer, we are better tailored to meet our residents’ needs as they can run weekend errands and reach restaurants, stores, and other area attractions.”

“Due to the overwhelming positive response to our Saturday service, it was imperative that the County find a way to provide expanded services, even if it is only for this summer,” said Bentley. “The County will continue to look for ways to expand and improve our services even more in the future. While this expanded service does increase our costs, CARTS may be able to apply for additional grant funding to help offset the costs of providing this service, especially if we continue to see positive responses from our customers.”

CARTS City Fixed Routes in Jamestown, Lakewood, Celoron, Falconer and Dunkirk will be operating on Saturdays for the 2019 Summer Season from June 1, 2019 through August 31, 2019.

Operating Hours for Jamestown Area Routes are:
Lakewood/Falconer Routes will run from 8:15 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and
Southwest Express/North Main, Baker/Willard Routes will run from 8:15 a.m. to 6:15 p.m.

Operating Hours for Dunkirk Area Routes are:
Red and Green Routes will run from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

“The Summer Saturday Service will help meet the needs of our riders and fulfill a gap that has been identified in the Coordinated Transportation Plan for Chautauqua County since it was established in 2008,” said Senior Project Coordinator, Michele Westphal.
