Bark-Park Cabana Keeps Visitors Covered

The weather outside may be frightful, but for visitors to the Village of Lakewood Bark-Park, a new four-season cabana is delightful.

According to village officials, the dog park has been well received by residents of the village, and its surrounding areas, since its opening in 2013. Over the past several years, the village has added picnic tables and benches for dog owners to sit and relax, however there wasn’t an area to escape inclement weather.

“As we all know weather in Western New York can be unpredictable,” said Randy Holcomb, Village of Lakewood mayor. “We are happy to be able to provide a safe space for dogs and their owners year-round, however it is important that they also have a place to stay dry and warm.”

A grant from the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation’s Fund for the Region allowed the village to purchase a 10×16 foot cabana, locally from Piazza Carpet One. The Village ofLakewood’s Department of Public Works installed the structure this fall and will be responsible for its general upkeep, as well as, the continued maintenance of the dog park.

Jamestown Awning and Party Tents also installed canopies on the sides of the cabana to help insulate the cabana and keep it dry during rain and snow storms.

The Village of Lakewood Bark Park is open daily from dawn to dusk. All visitors must register their pets to be able to use the park. For more information, or to complete a registration form, visit or call 763-8557.
