Grape Discovery Center
Despite a very rainy Saturday July 29, seventy-two golfers completed 18 holes at Pinehurst Golf Club. Proceeds from the tournament benefit the Grape Discovery Center in Westfield.
Golfers commented the rain was chilly, but without the threat of lightening, the tournament took place following a three hour rain delay. Players were generous with their support including the 50/50 drawing and a basket raffle of twenty five prizes. Gift baskets, gift cards and certificates brought interest from the participants. This tournament is the major fund-raising activity for the Center.
Pinehurst’s famous grilled hot dogs were served “at the turn” and a delicious dinner provided by Sensory Smokehouse of Ripley was served at the conclusion of the tournament. Traditional prizes were awarded during the dinner. Taking first place was the team comprised of Jim Deakin, Darien Swanson, Andy Deakin and August Viele. Second place was awarded to Ralph Johnsen, Marcus Lutgen, Bruce Thompson and John Depew. The team of David Bird, Lisa Bird, Jerry Tramuta and Mike Wilson took third place. Additional prizes awarded include: closest to the pin/men, Darien Swanson; longest drive/men, Marcus Lutgen; longest drive/senior, Jon Casler; and longest drive/women, Paula Bobik.
