Back pain is one of the chief complaints of Americans today. Our sedentary lifestyle make us ripe to strain or injury our backs. Is there something Chinese Medicine can do to help?
Back pain can be caused by many different reasons, ie. injury, tumors and chronic disease. What all these causes have in common is inflammation. Inflammation can be greatly helped by a few things.
Acupuncture has been used to treat pain for milennia. The oldest acupuncture needle is believed to 5000 years old. Acupuncture is a safe, natural, drug-free and effective way to get well and stay healthy. An acupuncturist has developed keen diagnostic skills to effectively evaluate the balance of energy in the body. In Chinese Medicine, we use needles, cups and lancets to treat pain along with diet, massage and exercise.
Pain is blocked or stagnated energy. Needles can be put in local areas of pain, but in general needles are placed distally from the areas of pain to promote the flow of blocked energy. Once the energy starts flowing the pain diminishes.
In Chinese medicine, it said that one is not a doctor unless one addresses the diet first. There are a few things that the average person can add or subtract from their diet to greatly speed up their recovery.
1) Avoiding sugars and grains will greatly reduce or even eliminate their pain level. Grains and sugars cause inflammation that exacerbates pain.
2) Adding anti-inflammatory foods into our diet. These include herbs such as ginger, turmeric, cloves, cinnamon, marjoram, sage and oregano. Foods include green leafy vegetables, fatty fish like salmon, nuts and oils like olive oil.
3) Avoiding exposure to chemicals and metals. When our bodies are exposed to chemicals when are bodies are already under stress, the added exposure will magnify the pain…
4) Adding the right herbs and supplements that can reduce pain and inflammation.
In all, a combination of nutrition, herbs and acupuncture can greatly reduce pain or even eliminate pain.
