Women on average earn 77 cents for every dollar a man earns. Pay Equity Day was created to mark this disparity, and this year it falls on Wednesday, April 13th, the day that women’s salaries catch up with men’s 2015 salaries. The American Association of University Women Jamestown Branch (AAUW) and Jamestown Community College (JCC) will join together at a Pay Equity Rally from noon – 1 pm on April 13th by the Pond on the JCC Campus. The public is welcome to join together to rally for equal pay for women. (If bad weather, the rally will be held in the JCC Student Union.)
Sheri Scavone, Executive Director of the WNY Women’s Foundation, will speak at the rally along with Greg Rabb, Jamestown City Council President, and representatives of Senator Kristen Gillibrand, Mayor Sam Teresi, and other local public officials.

Sheri Scavone is the Executive Director of the WNY Women’s Foundation, dedicated to removing barriers and creating opportunities for girls and women to thrive and contribute to the community. In her role, Ms. Scavone uses Foundation research data to educate, convene and forge collaborations with key community stakeholders about gender bias and other issues preventing girls and women from achieving economic self-sufficiency. She leads the Foundation to empower young girls, single mothers and aspiring female leaders through strategic initiatives and investments. The WNY Women’s Foundation was also a supporter of the 2014 Erie County Executive Order and 2015 ECIDA policy to pay women equal to male counterparts in similar jobs.

Ms. Scavone is a licensed physical therapist, earned an Executive Leader degree in Health Systems Administration and has an advanced post-graduate certificate in Palliative Care.
