
In celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day, the Jamestown Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and Jamestown Community College (JCC) will sponsor the 21 st annual Get in the Game day-long event on Saturday, March 14, 2020 for girls in grades 4-7. Beginning at 8:30 am and running through 4 pm, girls will rotate in age-appropriate groups through eight different interactive sports stations at the JCC Physical Education Complex. This year the sports featured include kayaking, rugby, soccer, volleyball, track, basketball, and yoga.
The sports workshops accommodate all skill levels. Girls will be supervised by AAUW, college and high school volunteers, and first aid assistants are available throughout the event. Registration is limited to 120 girls and costs just $10. Registration includes a full day of activities, lunch, and souvenir t-shirt. Additional gifts for the attendees will be provided by the generous support of Western New York Girls in Sports, that is collaborating with GITG for the second year. On-line registration and payment is available at 2020 Get in the Game Facebook event. A limited number of scholarships are available. A request for a scholarship should be marked on the registration form. Registration deadline is Monday, March 9, 2020. Due to safety reasons, late arrivals or early dismissals cannot be accommodated.
The annual Get in the Game event was inspired by the Women’s Sports Foundation that created and sponsors the annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day. AAUW, YWCA- Jamestown, and JCC have co-sponsored this event for over 20 years with financial support from the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation. Over 1,900 girls have been given the opportunity to experience new sports, learn about teamwork and leadership skills, and increase their self-esteem and self-confidence as well as develop strategies to lead a healthy lifestyle.
