The Chautauqua County Department of Planning and Economic Development and the Chautauqua Lake and Watershed Management Alliance invite the public to join them for the fourth annual Celebrate the Lake Rally. The rally will be held on August 19, 2017 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Village Casino, 1 Lakeside Dr. in Bemus Point. It will celebrate all of the good things that are happening on Chautauqua Lake and this year’s theme is Investment and Change.

“Now in its fourth year, the Celebrate the Lake Rally is an important event that brings everyone together to learn more about the things being done to improve Chautauqua Lake and all of the investments being made in our communities along the lake,” said Chautauqua County Executive Vince Horrigan. “I think most people will be surprised to learn that tens of millions of dollars are being invested in Chautauqua Lake and even more investments are on the horizon.”

During the rally, Chautauqua County Watershed Coordinator Dave McCoy will talk about the many partners who are working to improve the lake, efforts to bring Local, State and Federal investment into the watershed, current scientific initiatives, and how Chautauqua Lake is viewed nationally.

The rally will also feature a panel discussion on lake maintenance and representatives from Camp Onyahsa will present on the camp’s history and plans for expansion.

“Camp Onyahsa has had an enormous impact on the lives of so many young people and we are proud to include them in our program this year,” said Erin Brickley, Executive Director of the Chautauqua Lake and Watershed Management Alliance. “There will again be a presentation on the environmentally important wastewater treatment and sewer district expansion projects that are under construction or in planning, as well as an update on the Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy’s Tributary and Wetlands Preserve System.”

Numerous lake-based organizations will have exhibits at the 2017 Celebrate Chautauqua Lake Rally to discuss their initiatives and to answer questions. The public event is free and breakfast will be provided to attendees.
