Toys for Tots Fund-raiser to be Held October 22

One of the first organizations to donate gifts to this year’s Toys for Tots drive was Avon. Dimon conducted a fund-raiser in September that saw Avon donate the stuffed animals (named Annie the Owl and Eduardo the Elephant). In addition, some of Dimon’s customers who earned animals as a gift chose to donate them to Toys for Tots.

The giving season will officially get under way Saturday, October 22, when The Resource Center holds the kickoff celebration for its Toys for Tots drive.

The 10th annual event will be held at the Crystal Ballroom, located in the Hotel Jamestown building at 110 West Third Street in Jamestown, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Again this year, the evening will feature a performance by the local comedy troupe The Lights of Broadway.

Appetizers will be available before the 8:00 show time, and there will be a dessert buffet during intermission. A cash bar will be available. There also will be a Chinese auction featuring dozens of items donated by local businesses.

“We are excited to again be bringing this Halloween event to downtown Jamestown to kick off our Toys for Tots season. It will be a night of laughs and an overall fun event,” said Heather C. Brown, assistant executive director at The Resource Center, who is one of the lead organizers of the toy drive each year. “Please join us and help bring smiles to the less fortunate children in our community.”

Major sponsors of the event include Greater Woodlawn Federal Credit Union; Lakewood Rod & Gun Club; Lane Women’s Health Group; Lind Funeral Home; Saxton, Kocur & Associates; Premier Consulting Associates; Support Enterprises, Inc.; and WCA Hospital.

Auction items include donations from the Buffalo Bills a football helmet autographed by Eric Wood), Chautauqua Institution, Darien Lake, Ellicottville Brewing Company, Forte, Holiday Valley, Lena’s Pizza, the Lucy Desi Museum, Pepsi, Southern Tier Brewing Company, the Summer Wind, Webb’s, and Ziebart, as well as many gift baskets.

The event is a fund-raiser for the annual U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots drive in Chautauqua County. This marks the 16th straight year that The Resource Center has coordinated the Toys for Tots drive. Thanks to the support of area residents and local businesses, Toys for Tots makes the holidays merrier for more than 2,400 children in our community.
