I get lots of letters asking me to donate to worthy causes. Lately, I get letters with actual money inside a display window in the envelope, dimes, quarters and even silver dollars. I guess it’s supposed to make me feel guilty enough to send back more. Sometimes I do, if they seem really good, though I can’t afford much. But then, forever after, I get so many more mail requests they’ve wasted everything I gave them on just asking me for more. And now I get begs from a dozen more “good” causes every week because the people I originally gave my small gift to probably tried to make their money back by selling my name and address. Now I only give to charities that prove they use it right. And that doesn’t include sending me money for a guilt trip.
