St. Luke’s Episcopal Church invites the community to attend their Junior Choir’s Second Annual Variety Concert that will be presented on Monday evening June 25 at 7:00 pm in the church sanctuary.

The group has been working under the direction of Andy Schmidt, St. Luke’s Director of Music to present a wide variety sacred and popular music. The evening’s program will consist of ensemble anthems sung by the whole group as well as solo performances by select members of the choir.

The idea for the concert began a few years ago when Schmidt allowed the Junior Choir to sing the pop song “See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa as a part of a special Sunday service. After that performance a few of the young people approached the director about rehearsing additional songs to perform for their family and friends. As the word got out and other members expressed an interest, Schmidt decided to make the concert a public event.

“This concert is a wonderful showcase of all the young talent that is nurtured at St. Luke’s.” says parent Norma DeJoy. “Last year Andy allowed the kids to choose the songs, and he learned all the music to accompany the vocal performances. They practiced diligently for months, and all gave strong performances. This year they are excited to do it all again with new pieces. We can’t wait to hear the results!”

Vocal soloists this year will include choristers Allison Dalton, Madeline DeJoy, Aidan Fodor, Abby Monaghan, McKenzie Pickett, Aliceson Scott, and several others, as well as Danica Olson-Walter, St. Luke’s Director of Youth Activities, who will also give a solo performance. The concert will also feature pianist Olivia Pinciaro, a student of Schmidt’s, as accompanist for several of the pieces.

“St. Luke’s Junior Choir has experienced tremendous growth over the past three years, and we are so delighted to share what we’ve been up to with the wider Jamestown community.” says Schmidt. “The kids and I have a blast together each week working on many different styles of music. Last year’s concert was a tremendous success with 18 young musicians participating. It is our hope that this year’s concert will be equally successful.”

St. Luke’s Episcopal Church is located at 410 North Main Street, Jamestown (corner of Fourth and Main) Admission to the concert is free.
