Fletcher Elementary School Universal Prekindergarten classrooms were recently overflowing from a generous donation from the Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church. The church donated supplies for UPK teachers that they normally would have to purchase or have families purchase at the beginning of the school year.
“It is wonderful to have one of our community churches reach out and support our students in this way,” said Fletcher Elementary School Principal Maria DeJoy. “We are so grateful to have Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church be there for our students and their families.”
Supplies including glue sticks to paper towels to hand sanitizers to binders were given to each UPK classroom. The church donated hundreds of supplies to the school.
“Fletcher Elementary School is in the community we serve and our church was seeking a way to reach out to our local community in some way,” said Reverend Carolyn Stow. “At the same time, one of our parents had a child entering UPK at Fletcher this year and talked of the cost of all the supplies needed. We understood that the cost of buying all these supplies may be difficult for some families and we wanted to help. What a great way to spread love to the community and its young families.”
