Jamestown High School is proud to present its school musical, The Drowsy Chaperone, on Thursday, March 21st and Friday March 22nd at 7 p.m. and again on Saturday, March 23rd at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the JHS auditorium. Tickets can be purchased from any cast, crew, or orchestra member, or at door for $8. All tickets are general admission.
“The cast has been working extremely hard on this musical, despite some challenges due to the weather, and are eager to present it to the community,” said Musical Director Lauren Scharf. “The Drowsy Chaperone is very unique musical and isn’t performed often in the area so I’m excited to bring it to life here in Jamestown. It’s full of puns, witty humor and has some really great music. I believe the cast is doing a great job of interpreting each of the roles and characters.”
The Drowsy Chaperone begins as the narrator, Man in Chair sitting on a darkened stage, greets the audience. The theater fanatic, who is feeling a little blue, quickly decides to cheer things up by playing a record of the original cast recording of a fictional Broadway musical, The Drowsy Chaperone.
Immediately after the needle touches the record the show comes to life in the Man’s apartment and the plot unfolds. A glamorous show girl named Janet Van De Graaff is preparing to marry oil tycoon Robert Martin, but unsure if she should give up her life in show business, turns to her chaperone and confidant to help allay her fears. Meanwhile, Janet’s producer Feldzieg is being threatened by two gangsters disguised as pastry chefs to ensure the wedding does not happen. As you can imagine, a series of mix-ups and mayhem ensue.
