Jamestown Young Professionals are proud to announce a one-of-a-kind chance to get to know the candidates for county executive as part of a new lecture series.

The group is hosting a series of four lecture events focused on leadership and young professionals in the Jamestown area this fall. The first event will feature the two candidates running for county executive: Mike Ferguson and George Borrello in a non-partisan, meet-the-candidates setting. The event will be held at the Robert H. Jackson Center from 5:30-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

“We want to encourage all people to attend,” said Amber Grekalski, Jamestown Young Professionals Board of Directors co-chair. “Community events are the new focus of the board, and we’re excited to kick-off this initiative with this lecture series.”

Borrello is currently a Chautauqua County legislator. He was born and raised in Silver Creek and Fredonia. Borrello is a graduate of Purdue University, and has spent much of his life as a businessman and an entrepreneur.

Ferguson is also a life-long Western New Yorker and has lived in Chautauqua County for 28 years. He was born in Buffalo, and was once a professional touring racquetball pro. Ferguson has also worked as the Jamestown Savings Bank Ice Arena director and general manager, as well as general manager of the Jamestown Jammers and other organizations.

The candidates will be talking about their business vision, how they plan to keep young professionals in the area and give information on their backgrounds, specifically during their young professional lives. There will also be an opportunity for questions and answers at the end of the program.

The event is sponsored by Phillips Lytle LLP. Matthew Mazgaj, Phillips Lytle attorney in Jamestown and JYP Board of Directors member, will be the master of ceremonies.

The Jamestown Young Professionals group is proud to offer challenging, informative programming that invites young professionals to get involved in the community and stay educated on important issues.

JYP will continue to offer such programming in the future, and will focus on providing creative professional development, learning and networking opportunities that are valuable and worthwhile to the up-and-coming leaders in the Jamestown area.

The upcoming lectures in the series include:

  • “Invest In Your Future,” on Sept. 26 at 5:30 p.m. at Moonbrook Country Club.
  • “Local Economy and Business Development,” on Oct. 10 at the Robert H. Jackson Center at 5:30 p.m.
  • “Powering Jamestown: The BPU and Energy Consumption” at the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities at 5:30 p.m.
