Heritage Ministries Raises Money for Employee’s Daughter Recently Diagnosed with Bone Cancer

heritage ministriesOn December 23, Heritage Ministries’ employees presented Amanda Wheeler, a Certified Nursing Assistant at Heritage Village, with gifts for Christmas. On November 14, Amanda’s daughter, Morgan, 8, was diagnosed with Ewing’s Scarcoma, a bone cancer.

Kim Bruce, Assistant to the Director or Nursing at Heritage Village, organized the fundraiser and said, “When we heard the news that Amanda’s daughter had bone cancer, our hearts just broke for her. We knew we had to do something for her and Morgan.” On December 11, the organization circulated an email to the staff and the response was amazing. By the time the gifts were given, nearly $1000 in cash and gifts cards were collected for Amanda and Morgan. In addition, many gifts and a great deal of food were given to the Wheeler family.

“The generosity of this organization is great,” Bruce said. “Amanda and Morgan are part of our Heritage family. We know that these gifts won’t take away the challenges the Wheelers have to endure over the coming year, but we do hope that they ease them.

Morgan Wheeler started her first course of chemotherapy on December 2, the day after her eighth birthday. She will have eight weeks of chemotherapy. Upon completion of the chemo, Morgan will have surgery to replace her tibia. Then, she will have another 14 weeks of chemotherapy. Amanda said, “Even though Morgan is going through this trial, she is happy. She is the happiest kid you will ever meet.”

When she received the gifts from Heritage, Amanda said, “Thank you so much. I can’t believe what a blessing this is.”
