After 40 years of wear and tear, the First Lutheran Church of Jamestown is replacing its hymnals. A grant from the Karl Peterson Fund, administered by the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, assisted in purchasing 84 of the 515 books. Members of the church, and a concert held over the summer, raised the remaining funds.

According to Brian Bogey, First Lutheran Church minister of music, it is fitting that the grant from the Community Foundation came from the Karl Peterson Fund. “Karl Peterson was a very prominent, and dedicated, member of this church,” Bogey said. “This (is) a great tribute to his legacy here in Jamestown.

The new hymnals will be used during services beginning on September 3.
